Kate Moss is one of the most recognized and celebrated faces in the fashion industry. But while you’ve probably seen Miss Moss in countless campaigns, how much do you actually know about her life?
1. She and Mario Sorrenti broke up because of his “obsession” with taking pictures
Speaking during an interview with Nick Knight about shooting Calvin Klein’s 1993 Obsession campaign – which catapulted her into fame when she was aged just 17 – Moss revealed how her boyfriend at the time, photographer Mario Sorrenti, had an “obsession” with taking pictures of her.
“It was obsession,” she revealed. “I would wake up in the morning and he’d be taking pictures of me and I’d be like f*** off! And I lay like that for 10 days. He would not stop taking pictures of (me).”
While the photos were brilliant, the constant pressure from Sorrenti to pose her for photos subsequently led to their break up.
“We split up after that, because the thing is, when you’re in a relationship with a photographer and they start abusing that relationship of being like ‘I want you to do this and I want you to do that’…I didn’t want to work all the time.'”
2. When she moved to New York, she couldn’t get used to stretch limos
Born and raised in Croydon, Greater London, when Moss’s career started taking off she moved to New York City and was scoring a lot of jobs. But she hated the fact that she was sent stretch limos to take her to shoots – something which she found awkward and embarrassing.
“They would start sending limos for me and I’d be like (pulls a face) ‘that is so embarrassing, I’m not getting into a stretch limo by myself to go to a shoot,” she told Knight.
“I was wearing trainers and a f****** ripped Margiela skirt. You know…grunge. I was like ‘This does not feel right at all,'” she adds. “Nobody gets in a stretch anymore. But then it was like you took a stretch everywhere.”
3. One of the best things about NYC was that she met Naomi Campbell
Speaking of her time in New York City, Moss revealed there was a silver-lining because she made some incredible friends in the industry.
“It was fine because then I made friends. Naomi (Campbell) and Christy (Turlington) took me under their wing and then I met Johnny (Depp),” she explained. “They all had stretch limos so I didn’t feel so uncomfortable. We all travelled together after that.”
