Not even the impending divorce of actor Johnny Depp and his wife Amber Heard could affect the promotions of the fifth installment of the pirate movie franchise, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” due to hit global theaters on May 26, 2017.
As everyone knows, Johnny Depp is the main protagonist of the franchise playing the role of the unorthodox and funny Captain Jack Sparrow. Last month, he and Amber Heard confirmed that they are already divorcing after a whirlwind marriage that lasted barely 15 months.
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” also has the ignominy of being regarded as the most expensive film ever made thus far, with its budget reportedly hitting the $500 million mark because of countless delays due mostly to Johnny Depp.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney Pictures have initially pegged the production budget of the movie at $250 million but have gone overboard and just went with it to make sure that it becomes a blockbuster success and recoup their investments.
As it is, promotions would be crucial in ensuring that “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” rakes in more than half a billion dollars in the box office when it is released to the cinemas next year.
Interestingly, a new comic book featuring the franchise will be launched in August, which would surely help in the promotions of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.”
The comic book will follow Captain Jack Sparrow and his adventures in between the movies. The first issue will feature Captain Jack being on the run after squaring off with Captain Barbossa.
Admiral Norrington of the British Army has also given him a head start for his escape but the chase is definitely on, reports Tech Times.
Thus, the first issue of the comic book shall actually follow the events that transpired after “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” the first movie of the franchise.
It has yet to be confirmed how many issues the “Pirates of the Caribbean” comic book will have, but it shall be published by Joe Books and will be handled by Joe Flood and Chris Schweizer.
Not in the movie for sure
Actress Penelope Cruz was part of the fourth movie of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise entitled “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” shown in 2011.
She took on the role of lady pirate Angelica back then and her entry into the movie series was just right as Keira Knightley decided to move on from the franchise by abandoning her Elizabeth Swann character after being involved in the first three movies.
There were reports as early as last year that Penelope Cruz shall be reprising her role in the fifth installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise. It heated up once again this year weeks after the movie had a three-week filming extension over in Vancouver, Canada from end-March to mid-April this year.
The rumors actually originated from the fact that Penelope Cruz was spotted on the Australian set of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” last year.
It turns out that the actress was there because she was just visiting her husband Javier Bardem, who is the one who has been made as part of the cast of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men No Tales” as the villainous Captain Salazar.
No husband-and-wife in the movie
It can be recalled that it was also in April last year when the former wife of Johnny Depp, Amber Heard, also visited her former husband on the set using a private jet and also brought along their Yorkshire pet dogs. Amber Heard was never rumored to be part of “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” but she got embroiled in a legal mess with the Australian Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources for not subjecting their pet dogs to local quarantine laws.
The ministry had Barnaby Joyce as Minister who formalized the lodging of a case against Amber Heard. Joyce is now the Australian Deputy Prime Minister.
