One of the easiest ways to take your look from casual and cool to chic, is with statement jewelry.
What is statement jewelry you ask? Statement jewelry simply refers to an accessory that is striking and bold, and becomes the focal point of your look. One of the reasons this is so important is because a great accessory has the ability to make a woman feel confident and powerful.
Men and women have been complimenting their outfits for centuries, by adorning themselves with jewels as symbols of wealth, class and identity, so adding a statement piece is nothing new.
One at a time, please
Statement jewelry is usually big, and therefore you should only wear one statement piece at a time. Meaning either a gorgeous necklace or a pair of long dangling earrings etc. but not all at the same time.
The key is in the name
You want the statement jewelry to be the focal point of your look and breathe some life into your outfit, so wear it with simple patterns, solid hues and clean cuts. Your clothing should complement the jewelry: if you’re wearing a bold, brightly colored bib necklace, make sure that you are not wearing a bold printed top or dress, as they will clash on your neckline and overwhelm you.
Always consider your clothing
Pieces that are not quite as bright and bold like a metallic necklace or a cuff, will work well with patterns. To give you some ideas of what clothing works well with statement jewelry, here is a short list: a little black dress, a simple, scoop neck shirt, a strapless gown and a neutral turtleneck.
Your neckline plays a big role
If you’re going to wear a statement necklace, always consider the neckline of your outfit to ensure that they don’t clash. While bardot necklines and V-necks tend to work very well with most necklaces, you should avoid wearing big chunky necklaces with halternecks, detailed necklines, collared shirts and asymmetrical off-the-shoulder necklines.
Keep it simple
The same rule applies for makeup. Keep it simple or wear a lipstick that has the same color in it as your jewelry.
Our style is in a sense an extension of our personalities, and with so many accessories out there to choose from, what you choose is ultimately a reflection of your personal style preference. Always choose pieces that complement your looks, make you feel great, and suit your own style.
